Good Old Fashioned Hamburger

When I think of the summer, I think of BBQ's, long weekends, and pools. When I think of summer BBQ's, I think of hamburgers in particular. The neat thing about the hamburger is that it can go from simple to gourmet depending on it's accessories. It's like the little black dress of food!

Here's what you'll need:
1 lb ground beef or turkey
1 egg
1/2 cup saltines crumbled
1/4 cup worschestire sauce
Dash of garlic powder
Dash of onion powder
Dash of salt
Dash of pepper

Mix everything into a big ol' bowl. Separate into handfull size mounds and roll into balls and flatten into a patty. BBQ on a grill or brown in a skillet, flipping over as edges start to brown and juices start to come out the top. Cook to your desire of rare to well done.

Ways To Enhance Your Burger

Traditional: Add a slice of American cheese, garnish with a pickle, onion, lettuce and tomato on a bun with ketchup and mustard. (I omit lettuce, tomato and onion because I'm boring.)

BBQ Bacon: Add a slice of American cheese, grilled onions, and bacon on a bun with mayo and BBQ sauce.

California Contemporary: Do traditional style but add a bacon, avocado and mayo, or sub out condiments with 1,000 Island Dressing.

Southwest: Add a slice of Pepper Jack cheese, bacon, and green chiles with mayo on a bun.

Atkins: Add a slice of cheese of any type, tomato, and onions and wrap in large slices of iceberg lettuce.
