Coffee Can Planter
By Jenny Teague
I love plants and sometimes I wish I had a small planter that is non-intrusive, yet colorful to put somewhere like in an office place or on a small desk, windowsill, etc.
Here's what you'll need:
20 oz plastic soda bottle, rinsed out
Medium sized coffee can (plastic or metal, I like metal)
Scissors
Sharpee
Things to decorate your can: paint, contact paper, Mod Podge, mosaic tiles, etc. It's up to you how you want to decorate it!
Planter mix
Plant, seeds, bulbs, etc.
1. Place soda bottle inside of coffee can and mark the soda bottle about 1 cm below the rim of the coffee can with a Sharpee.
2. Trace around the bottle at the marking and using scissors cut along the marking.
3. Using your scissors, poke a hole or two at the bottom of the bottle for water to drain.
4. Decorate the outside of your coffee can. You can paint it, use contact paper, or Mod Podge decorative paper, fabric, or textures, or glue mosaic tiles, etc. Go to town. You're only limited by your creativity!
5. Add planter mix to your soda bottle and a plant, flower, seeds, bulb, etc.
6. Carefully place into coffee can.
7. Place somewhere you can enjoy some extra greenery, water and watch it grow!
